What Is Agentic AI?

Learning Objectives

  • ·Define agentic AI using the four core pillars (perceive, reason, act, learn) in plain business language.
  • ·Explain why agentic AI is a category shift from generative AI, citing the 5% → 40% enterprise adoption trend.
  • ·Identify one strong agent candidate function and one non-candidate function inside the learner's own business.

Lesson

HOOK (0:00–0:45): Every day your team is doing the same fifteen things — the same inbox replies, the same cold-lead follow-ups, the same proposals. You've tried ChatGPT, you got a clever email, and the work was still on your desk Tuesday morning. So the only question that matters is: is this real or another shiny object? It is real — but not the way most people are explaining it. Let me show you what changes by the end of this video. PROMISE (0:45–1:30): By the end of this lesson you will be able to do three things. One — define agentic AI in one sentence and tell the difference between an AI tool and an AI agent. Two — understand why this is not a chatbot upgrade; it is a category change. Three — start identifying which functions inside your own business are agent candidates and which are not. No code. No setup. Just clarity. BEAT 1 — What 'agentic' actually means (1:30–3:30): An AI agent is software that perceives, reasons, acts, and learns — to accomplish a goal you gave it — with minimal supervision. ChatGPT in standard form responds. An agent operates. Example: 'Watch my inbox. When a new lead comes in, look up their company, draft a personal reply, schedule a follow-up in 3 days, add them to my CRM.' Four steps, four tools, one goal. From answer machine to operator. BEAT 2 — Why this matters for small-mid business (3:30–5:30): Two numbers. By end of 2026, Gartner expects 40% of enterprise apps to embed AI agents — up from 5% today. Market CAGR over 43% through 2034. The first wave of winners will not be the Fortune 500 — it will be small and mid-sized operators with full workflow visibility and the speed to deploy. You have a structural advantage right now. Use it. BEAT 3 — Automation vs. Tool vs. Agent (5:30–7:30): Automation is rule-based, no judgment. AI tools (ChatGPT, image gen) are responsive — they wait. Agents combine rules-based reliability, AI-level judgment, and cross-tool action without hand-holding. Automation = calculator. AI tool = brilliant intern. Agent = junior employee who shows up Monday and starts working. BEAT 4 — The Four Pillars in plain language (7:30–9:00): Perception (reads inputs), Reasoning (chooses next step), Action (writes/sends/updates across multiple tools), Learning (improves over time). If a tool only does one or two, it is not an agent — it's a feature. Write that down. GUIDED APPLICATION (9:00–10:30): Think of one business function that (1) happens 5+ times a week, (2) crosses more than one tool, (3) has clear rules but needs some judgment, (4) is recoverable if a mistake happens. Now think of one that fails those criteria — maybe it's a major sales call, an irreversible payment, or a creative-strategic call. The first list is your agent territory. The second stays human. IMPLEMENTATION CTA (10:30–11:15): Pause this video right now and open the Module 1 Autonomy Level Assessment Worksheet in your downloads. Go to Section A — Candidate Functions. Write down the one business function you just identified as a strong agent candidate. In the column next to it, write the four pillars and check which ones the function actually requires. Ninety seconds. Do it before you continue. LESSON BRIDGE (11:15–12:00): In Lesson 1.2 we put agentic AI side-by-side with generative AI and traditional automation, so you'll know exactly which solution to reach for in any situation — and which to walk away from. See you there.
